Promoting self-reliance: To assist the Ohwa International Christian Academy in Pohnpei, teach self-reliance to its students, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) presented 15 sewing machines, three fishing spears, goggles, fins, snorkels and underwater lights as a humanitarian donation to the school on April 18. The Mormon Church also provided the materials necessary to begin the students' first sewing projects. The idea behind this donation is to teach the students how to design their own clothes, sew their creations and sell them on the local market. They will learn how to budget, market and perpetuate their own business. They will also learn how to maintain the sewing machines and develop the life skills necessary to provide for their future families. The fishing supplies were donated to augment a previous donation by the church of a boat, outboard engine and fishing nets to the school, which have helped provide fish for the students for several years now. Michael T. Ringwood, the church's Asia-North Area president, presented the donation to Saped Santos, vice principal of administration for Ohwa ICA. Senator Shelten Neth expressed sincere appreciation on behalf of the school for the donation of love provided by the church. Fasi Jimmy, director, and Joseph Villazon, Pohnpei State director of education, were also present during the presentation and offered their words of thanks. According to Bill Davis, the church's Micronesia-Guam Service Center manager, humanitarian projects are funded by donations of members of the church and others. From left: Michael T.
